Woodworking Hands-on Workshop
March 15, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am EDT
Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest has been meticulously restored back to its Jefferson-era appearance after 40 years of dedicated work by the Poplar Forest Restoration Department. Using tools available to Jefferson’s free and enslaved workman, our skilled craftsmen have restored all the elements of the house so what you see today, is what Jefferson would have seen once the house was completed.
And now you have the chance to try your hands at the tools used during the restoration. In conjunction with the Intro to Woodworking session on February 15th, participants will learn all about the art of historic woodworking. This class will focus on the hands-on side of woodworking. You will use period accurate tools to make your own picture frame using wood from the restoration.
If you are unable to attend session 1 on February 15th, a quick introduction to the tools you’ll be using will be provided. Tickets to the Hands-on Workshop are $50 and include a pass to return to the Poplar Forest and tour Jefferson’s retreat home, the unique opportunity to use historic tools, and your very own handmade photo frame. Attendees to the Introduction to Woodworking session will be given a discount code for session 2 making the tickets for both sessions $75 total.
*Please note, there are no refunds for event tickets for any reason.
